Doctorate in Business Administration

Professional research training is offered in the DBA or PhD cycle.

The modules are taught by school professors and recognized professionals who put their research experience at the service of students.  The DBA cycle aims to extend bac +5 level training (Master, MBA or equivalent qualifications) for 3 additional years.

Specializing in management, entrepreneurship, digital marketing and sustainable development, our program is also opening a department dedicated to new markets, particularly in cultural business management sciences (luxury professions and cultural tourism).

General presentation of the DBA/PHD

This training consists of writing a professional thesis.

The teachers support and direct you individuallyor in small groups of students with the same professional objective (professional seminars).

Teachers help you build a set of strategies to develop an analysis of your practice professional, deepen the technical aspects (knowledge and know-how) and your organizational skills within your professional activity.

It is also a question, thanks to the corporate experiences in management activities of your teachers, of clearly understanding the state of your transversal skills, your personality, your business skills to show themselves capable of highlighting it, during interviews, and/or developing it further through internal and external mobility (promotion and transfer).

Our program is aimed at:

  • for students wishing to professionalize their knowledge.

  • for professionals wishing to question and deepen their practices.

DOCTORATE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Our program is aimed at students wishing to professionalize their knowledge as well as professionals wishing to problematize and conceptualize their daily practice.

Professional research is at the heart of the identity of our school,  of our attention and an essential objective which must accompany the student or professional from their first year within IS-DBA.

The 5 specialties offered contribute to the achievement of this objective, oriented towards the student's professional future or career change.

4SPECIALTIES

The 4 specialties offered aim to enable everyone to achieve their professional objective.

The DBA/PhD doctoral cycle was created to organize and finalize the course.

Program and unit grids

Unit 1 is a research methodological training unit.

Unit 2is a unit of professional specialization.

Unit 3 is a unit of disciplinary development made up of knowledge and skills that should be expected of a holder of a DBA in their field of specialization (for example advanced mathematical models for the Finance and risk analysis specialty).

Unit 4 is a unit which brings together professional field practice (internship, salaried employment, business creation) and individual research work (project, dissertation, thesis).

We have favored a biannual distribution of modules around 6 semesters of 200 hours of training and 200 hours of professional practice.

Each semester is awarded with 30 ECTS. The DBA corresponds to the validation of 180 ECTS.

Seminars are organized every evening of the week.

It is obligatory to participate in at least two seminars per month.

Units and modules

UNIT E1 “RESEARCH METHODOLOGY”

Epistemology

Epistemology, a fundamental discipline for all university… and professional research, is based on the History and Philosophy of Science. Think about what seems obvious to us, but turns out to be false; thinking about what can be verified while seeming counterintuitive, opens the horizon of possibilities and promotes the spirit of innovation and change management. Study Karl Popper, Imre Lakatos,  Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Milton Friedman, Werner Heisenberg... is not only a theoretical interest of a researcher, locked in his laboratory, but also expresses a desire to enter into the activity of the world thanks to the mastery of a rigorous framework, essential to any analytical work. For example, Heisenberg’s “uncertainty principle”, relating to particle physics, applies just as much to surveys in a marketing study.

Market analysis

Any strategic decision is based on a rigorous analysis of the company's environment, that is to say its macro-environment (political, economic, societal, technological, ecological and legal) as well as its micro-environment (the market). : consumers, competitors, suppliers). Different tools are required for analysts: surveys, accounting and financial analysis, benchmarking, economic, competitive and technological intelligence.

Writing workshop

The “writing workshop” module aims to fill a void. To offer, on the one hand, to students – certainly already good researchers – a descriptive approach to the linguistic means required for the writing of writings specific to the university framework of research and discourse, whether this is intended for written production or oralized written production (defense, debate rhetoric, etc.).

The aim of this workshop is, on the other hand, the rapid and consistent mastery by students of syntactic formulations and uses, and other language technicalities, adapted to the responsiveness of reception. We expect students to meet the standards of writing publishable academic research. Which requires, beforehand, an analytical reading of work published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, an understanding of the publication criteria for each discipline, and training in writing small texts that can constitute an extract from a thesis or dissertation. or research article.

The discussion between the students and the teaching team allows the student-researcher to benefit from the spirit of writing, and therefore to develop a spirit of research. This module, established at the start of the course, is then extended by the module to support research writing.

Field survey methods

Field research is the main source for constructing new knowledge in the social sciences. It is based on a confrontation between theories, paradigms, already established concepts and facts, data collected rigorously and processed according to criteria guaranteeing, to the extent of the uncertainty inherent in any scientific approach, a scientificity of the subject. Indeed, without theoretical foundations and prior knowledge, empirical observation does not create scientific knowledge, but without empirical data, no new knowledge can appear.

During this module, students are supported in building their own field investigation system and carrying it out.

Mathematical, statistical and computer tools

Whatever the sector of activity (marketing, logistics, finance, etc.) a quantitative analysis provides more precise and rigorous knowledge allowing the development of an optimal strategy. Carrying out research work makes it possible to mobilize these same tools and thus develop professional skills that have become essential in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Indeed, Data has become the most important strategic resource; companies that hold it thus benefit from an indisputable competitive advantage. The design of algorithms therefore becomes essential in high-level analyst training. These algorithms are based on graph theory, game theory, statistics and econometrics... All these disciplines make it possible to model reality in order to deduce useful knowledge and not drown in data lakes.

Support in writing research

This module is of great benefit, an asset that many student researchers request. In the IS-DBA program, personalized and individual support is offered. It consists of regular monitoring of the progress of the research writing, correction of elements of written work in progress (thesis, article, project)... All these stages linked to the rigor of the analysis, and its expression, are not always very mature among certain brilliant researchers. This is why many student researchers sometimes call on external help, in return for funding. We want to avoid this dependence, provide this help directly by proposing a correction method that can be quickly assimilated. That the student researcher be guided in the construction of his plan, his problem, the writing of his work, and that he does not thus get lost, through organizational defects, in the complexity of writing his his thesis.
